CONFIGURE ALERT EMAIL NOTIFICATION SUBSCRIPTION IN SCOM

Posted by on Jun 28, 2016 in SCOM 2012

In my previous post we have configured Notification Channel and Subscribers. Now the question is how and when the alert email should trigger?

The answer is: Through subscriptions. So let’s configure the same.

Subscriptions

  1. Load up Operations Manager console and click on Administration.
  2. Under Notifications click New subscription.

19

  1. Under Description page, provide subscription a suitable name and click Next.

20

Now this is important. If not configured properly, SCOM will not trigger the alert email notification.

  1. Under Criteria page, we can modify the conditions that will trigger the alert email notification.

In this scenario, we want email notification for all the alerts to be sent with specific severity, priority and resolution state so we have selected the conditions accordingly.

  1. Click Next to continue.

21

Please Note: Here I am not going to cover the vast and complex scenarios on Condition customization. I would recommend try searching online if you need help on this. Also, it will be good if you try different scenarios in your test environment.

  1. On Subscribers page, click on Add to add the subscribers to be notified by this notification subscription.

22

  1. Under Subscriber Search page, search for the subscriber we created and click Add button.
  2. Click OK to continue.

23

Selected subscriber will reflect on Subscribers page.

  1. Click Next to continue.

24

  1. In Channels page, click on Add.

25

  1. Search for the Notification Channel we created and click Add button.
  2. Click OK to continue.

26

  1. Notification channel will reflect under Channels page.
  2. Click Next to continue.

27

  1. Under Summary page review the notification subscription settings and click Finish.

28

  1. Close the Notification Subscription Wizard by clicking Close button.

29

Finally, we have enabled email notification for all the alerts in SCOM. Now the subscribers should receive alert emails in their mailbox once a new alert is generated in SCOM console.
