INSTALL SCOM AGENT WITHOUT USING INSTALLATION MEDIA
One of my clients wanted to manually install the SCOM Agent through MOMAgent.msi on the servers in their environment while they did not have the installation media with them. They were not aware of the location from where they can copy the MOMAgent.msi file for SCOM agent installation.
So, this is what we did…..
SCOM Agent and UR file can be found on Management Server under SCOM installation directory. In our case, I found the agent files in below location:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\Operations Manager\Server\AgentManagement
Here we found both 32 (x86) and 64 (amd64) bit Agent files along with UNIX/Linux agent installation files.
Since we had 64-bit operating system, we opened the amd64 folder, there we got two files:
1: SCOM Agent installation file.
2: SCOM Agent UR patch file.
We copied both the files on computers on which SCOM agent needs to be installed.
Below is the process which needs to be followed to install SCOM agent on the server:
Launch Command Prompt as an Administrator, navigate to agent file location and run the setup.
Our installation files are under C:\temp folder.
Microsoft Monitoring Agent Setup wizard will open.
Click Next to continue.
Click I Agree to continue.
Leave the installation folder to default and click Next.
Leave the options to default and click Next to continue.
Provide Management Group and Management Sever name.
Leave the Management Server Port to default 5723. Click Next to continue.
You can select the Agent Action Account, here we will select Local System.
Click Next to continue.
Verify the Installation Settings and click Install to continue the installation.
Installation will start and will take few seconds to complete depending upon the server configuration.
Click Finish to close the setup wizard.
Same way install the SCOM agent patch (Agent UR).
Make sure Command Prompt is started as an Administrator otherwise setup will not start.
Setup will start and will not ask to provide any information.
Click Finish to close the wizard.
Restart the computer so the changes may take place.
Open SCOM Management Server.
Click on Pending Management option under Administration.
The agent will reflect under Pending Management, click on Approve button so the monitoring may start.
After few minutes the agent should reflect under Agent Managed in Healthy state.
If you want to install SCOM agent following the command line, you can refer Microsoft TechNet article from Matt Goedtel. He has explained the commands and arguments very well in his article. Please refer below URL:
