Free Disk Space report in SCOM for Windows & UNIX/Linux Computers
Recently we prepared the UNIX/Linux monitoring environment for one of our clients. Apart from the default reports, they wanted the free disk space information in the report for all of their Windows and UNIX/Linux servers.
Also, they wanted only those servers to be present in the report which has less than 10% free disk space left on the server.
I searched if somebody has written something about such report and fortunately found this link http://www.scomgod.com/?p=42 and was really impressed with the report that they had put together as it provided information for disk drives in very good format.
Although I had to make a very small change in the report so it can display only those servers for which free disk space is less than 10%.
The report can be downloaded from below link:
The report can show both UNIX/Linux and Windows disk drive information.
Below is the process to import the report:
1: Download the Report in .zip format.
2: Extract the file LogicalDrives.FreeSpace.Report.rdl and copy it on report server.
3: Logon to Report server and open report URL.
4: Open My Reports folder and click on Upload File option.
5: Browse the LogicalDrives.FreeSpace.Report.rdl file to upload.
6: Click Ok to continue.
After upload, the LogicalDrives.FreeSpace.Report.rdl file will reflect under MY Reports folder.
Now, this is important. You need to point the Report to existing Datawarehouse.
7: Select Manage from drop-down option.
8: Click on Data Sources.
9: Under Connection string field, change the Data Source to your SQL Server Instance Name.
10: You may test connection by clicking Test Connection button. Click Apply to save the changes.
Now the report is ready. The report can be found under Authored Reports.
Select the server group name from the list and Run the report.
The report will show all the servers in the group with disk space information.
Special thanks to the www.scomgod.com for proving this fantastic report.
As mentioned in the beginning of this post, out client wanted only those servers to be present in the report which has less than 10% free disk space left on the server.
This customization is very much possible. The same has been covered under below post:
