HTTP TO HTTPS URL REDIRECT – SCOM 2016

In my previous article Configure SCOM Web URL to use HTTPS (SSL) only I covered how to configure SCOM Web URL to use SSL only.

I got few questions from people, if there’s any possibility to redirect the HTTP URL to HTTPS as using HTTPS SCOM URL is altogether a new URL for them.

Well, it’s a valid question and should be addressed. So I decided to give it a go through URL Rewrite tool. The same can be downloaded from below link:

Download URL Rewrite

So, once the URL Rewrite download completes, install it on the server holding SCOM Web Console role.

1: Right click the rewrite_amd64 file and click Run as Administrator.

2: Accept the License Agreement and click Install button.

1

The installation will take few seconds to complete.

2

Click Finish button to close the Setup Wizard.

3

So, we have installed the URL Rewrite, it’s time to open IIS Manager and look for URL Rewrite extension.

1: Open IIS Manager. Type inetmgr under Run Window and click OK.

4

2: Expand Default Web Site and double click URL Rewrite.

5

3: Click on Blank rule and click OK.

6

4: Provide a suitable name for the rule.

5: Provide below parameters under Match URL configuration.

Requested URL: Matches the Pattern

Using: Regular Expressions

Pattern: (.*)

7

6: Expand Conditions configuration and click Add button.

7: Provide below details under Add Condition window and click OK to continue.

Condition input: {HTTPS}

Check if input string: Matches the Pattern

Pattern: ^OFF$

8

8: Expand Server Variables and provide below parameters:

Action type: Redirect

Redirect URL: https://{HTTP_HOST}/{R:1}

Redirect type: See Other (303)

9: Click Apply button to save the rule.

9

The saved rule should be visible as below:

10

10: Expand Default Web Site and click on OperationsManager.

11: Double click SSL Settings and uncheck Require SSL.

12: Click Apply to continue.

11

13: Click OperationsManager and click Explore under Actions tab.

12

14: Open the Web.Config file in Notepad.

13

15: Check if below parameters are present under Web.Config file:

        <rewrite>
            <rules>
<rule name=”Redirect to HTTPS” stopProcessing=”true”>
<match url=”(.*)” />
<conditions><add input=”{HTTPS}” pattern=”^OFF$” />
</conditions>
<action type=”Redirect” url=”https://{HTTP_HOST}/{R:1}” redirectType=”SeeOther” />
</rule>
            </rules>
        </rewrite>

16: If the above parameters are not present, find </system.webServer> element under Web.Config file.

17: Add above parameters before </system.webServer> element and save the Web.Config file.

14

That’s it.

Try opening the SCOM HTTP URL, it should now redirect to HTTPS.

15

Hope this helps.
