Fixing Error after changing SCOM Web URL to HTTPS – SCOM 2012

One of my clients, using SCOM 2012 R2 were trying to configure their SCOM Web URL to use HTTPS connections only however even after modifying the IIS site to use HTTPS, they were unable to open the SCOM Web URL.

They had followed all the steps mentioned in the article: Configure SCOM Web URL to use HTTPS (SSL) only however every time they were browsing the new HTTPS URL, they were getting below error:

Please provide the following information to the support engineer if you have to contact Microsoft Help and Support :
System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException: [HttpWebRequest_WebException_RemoteServer]
Arguments: NotFound
Debugging resource strings are unavailable. Often the key and arguments provide sufficient information to diagnose the problem. See —> System.Net.WebException: [HttpWebRequest_WebException_RemoteServer]
Arguments: NotFound

That means, if you are using SCOM 2012, it’s not only modifying the IIS site to use HTTPS however you need to do the below configuration at SCOM end as well:

1: Modification in Web.config file.

2: Modify Registry Key under WebConsole folder.

So, let’s do it..

Modification in Web.config file

1: Login on to SCOM server holding Web Console role.

2: Navigate to below location and open Web.config file:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\Operations Manager\WebConsole\WebHost

It’s the default location for Web.config file.

3: Modify the binding configuration as below and save the file:

The modification needs to be done for both Logon Service and Data Access service.

Note: It’s advised to take the backup of Web.config file before making the changes.

Also, it might possible that you will not be able to open Web.config file to do the modifications. In that scenario, you need to copy the Web.config file to preferred location, make the changes in file and replace the modified file with the original one.

Since Web.config file is updated, we need to do the changes in registry key as well.

Modify Registry Key under WebConsole folder

1: Login on to SCOM server holding Web Console role.

2: Open Registry Editor and navigate to below location:

HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\System Center Operations Manager\12\Setup\WebConsole\

Change below key values as below:

Once the registry key values are modified, perform IIS reset.

That’s it.

Try opening the SCOM Web URL with HTTPS URL, it should work fine.

Hope this helps.
